The Centre's main directions of work are:

  • organization, coordination and implementation of work with the data of educational environments in terms of using advanced computing capabilities to understand and solve learning problems;
  • design and development of psychometric and educational analytics services;
  • design and development of solutions in the field of adaptive learning and adaptive diagnostics, navigation and recommendation solutions in training;
  • creating recommendations for the improvement of educational products based on data;
  • development of methodological materials, organization and holding of seminars, master classes, workshops and other events in the field of our competence;
  • representation of the University at Russian and international conferences and other events in the field of computational education sciences.

On the one hand, the transition to online learning has brought new opportunities. On the other, it has raised several critical questions that are essential for evidence-based education. The pandemic has only made these issues all the more acute. The problems of online education were discussed at the recent eSTARS conference, which was organized by HSE University together with Coursera. Dmitry Abbakumov, Head of the HSE Centre for Computational Educational Sciences, shared his perspective on the matter.

During this summer’s exams, HSE School of Foreign Languages and the Centre for Computational Educational Sciences launched a pilot project for the automated checking of student exams.
