HSE Online covers all of HSE’s online education projects. Its main focus is the development of HSE’s social accountability as a centre of top quality education. HSE Online’s team is engaged in the development and provision of support to long-distance learning, as well as creating online courses for both HSE students and learners from all corners of the world, which helps to promote the university on the global market for educational services.
For students, HSE Online is a way to engage with the university via the screen. For teachers, it means an audience consisting of several thousands of curious and eager students. HSE Online project is under the supervision of HSE’s eLearning Office. This is an expert centre, which develops and provides support to all HSE projects in the field of online education.
The HSE Online’s team coordinates the development of eLearning and distance learning technologies at HSE, as well as provides technical, organizational and analytical support to online education projects on both Russian and global platforms. Furthermore, it eagerly promotes best practices in content development, support and organizational assistance for eLearning activities.
One of HSE Online main projects is ‘Modern Digital Education in Russia’, as well as joint efforts with leading Russian academic institutions on the ‘National Open Education Platform’ (NOEP) and new online specializations. Furthermore, one of the important lines of partnership for HSE Online is its direct cooperation with universities in Russia’s regions.
Projects with a global focus are a key area for HSE Online. HSE works in close partnership with the globally recognized educational platform Coursera. Massive open online courses offered by HSE are used by over 2 million students around the world. Furthermore, HSE Online is developing international partnerships for academic and research projects. For instance, the eSTARS international conference, which is held at HSE every year, brings together the top experts in online education to discuss recent trends, as well as present their innovative research.
HSE Online is a unique institution of contemporary Russian eLearning, which is capable of turning its innovative concepts into real-life academic practice. Proctoring technology, which helps educators to organize remote monitoring of online exams, and psychometric analysis are recent examples of HSE Online innovations, which are already being used both on the NOEP and on the ‘Modern Digital Education in Russia’ portal. In addition, HSE Online is developing its own educational platform ‘Online Education at HSE’ for programmes aimed at professional re-training, continuing professional development and obtaining an MBA.
HSE Online offers professional and technical opportunities for developing high-quality courses for such platforms as Coursera and NOEP, as well as for HSE’s own educational programmes. The HSE eLearning Office operates several studios to record videos, using the latest technologies, including the OneButton studio, thereby allowing teachers to film and monitor online courses independently.
Moreover, HSE Online works in close collaboration with the creators of online courses at all stages when developing eLearning content. Teachers are able to receive necessary methodical recommendations and consultation on all matters regarding eLearning processes. HSE Online’s specialists are not only engaged in developing instruments and platforms for distance learning and online courses, but also carry out in-depth analysis of the technologies used and how courses are put together. For example, psychometric analysts can provide teachers of online courses with expert feedback in order to regularly improve course content and make them even more effective for learners. HSE Online is also a centre for educational research in psychometrics in online education, as well as research at the confluence of information technologies and academic issues in a multicultural environment. The outcomes of these research initiatives are shared with the global academic community.
